About
New Jersey State Atlas was developed with two goals in mind; developing an interactive web map using open source software and making public GIS data easier to access. I work with GIS regularly, however my daily workflow is limited to the ESRI suite of software. I embrace open source software and wanted to learn more about the open source GIS tools available.
The second and more important goal is to distribute as much geospatial information about the State of New Jersey as possible. For example, the State Plan map and the Census’s journey to work information are two large and useful, but intimidating datasets. One could easily become overwhelmed with the amount of data available. I hope that the tools and maps I provide here will help you get more out of the data that’s out there. If you have any questions about the data or the programming behind the site, feel free to contact me.
